BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were released from Keraniganj Central Jail on bail. They were released from prison on Thursday (February 15) afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said after coming out of jail, the people of the country are always in favor of democracy. They will continue the movement peacefully. On the other hand, Amir Khosru said that the people of the country have decided in favor of democracy. The government has been defeated despite seizing power.
The two leaders of BNP were granted bail on Wednesday in the case filed at Ramna police station of the capital on charges of attack and vandalism at the residence of the Chief Justice. The court of Faisal Atiq Bin Quader, Acting Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court granted them bail. Their lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah said that there is no obstacle to the release of these two leaders of BNP.
11 cases were filed against Mirza Fakhrul in connection with BNP’s rally in the capital on October 28. He was already granted bail in 10 of them. Bail was granted yesterday in the case of attack on the residence of the remaining Chief Justice. On the other hand, 10 cases were filed against Amir Khosru. He was also granted early bail in other cases except the attack on the residence of the Chief Justice. Both these leaders could not get out of jail for so long because they were stuck in the same case.
On October 28, Mirza Fakhrul was arrested from his home in Gulshan, the capital, the day after the clash. And Amir Khosru was arrested on the night of November 2. Since then they have been in jail.
