Advisory Committee meeting to address climate change issues in Laksam

An advisory committee meeting was held at the Laksam Municipality Conference Hall on Wednesday (January 28) at the Laksam Municipality Conference Hall, funded by the Global Center on Adaptation and organized by Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) in collaboration with Save the Children. Under the Local Community Adaptation Planning Project for Establishing Climate Resilient Smart Cities, an “Advisory Committee” has been formed at the municipality level to address climate change-related problems, increase the adaptive capacity of the local community, and implement various projects under local leadership. The aim of forming the advisory committee at the municipality level is to supervise the project work at the community (low-income community) level, provide strategic guidance, and provide necessary guidance to all in participatory sustainable development planning and building a smart city.
Under the chairmanship of Arun Darshi Chakma, Project Coordinator of Ipsa, Save the Children’s Project Officer Keya Adhikari presented the progress of the project activities. Municipal Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kausar Hamid was the chief guest at the meeting. He said, those who live in different wards of Laksam Municipality, they are the ones who actually face all the problems and they are the ones who can best tell what the problems are and how to solve them. Therefore, I really liked the issue of local adaptation planning led by the local people. We are constantly undertaking and implementing various development activities of the municipality, but along with this, creating awareness among the people is very important. Therefore, your cooperation is absolutely essential in increasing awareness among the people.
He also said that he would provide regular updates on the progress of the meeting and would provide all kinds of support in the implementation of all the project activities. He also assigned the responsibility of the municipality’s accountant and acting municipal executive officer as focal points for cooperation and supervision in the implementation of the project activities.
Other guests present at the meeting were Municipality Executive Engineer Engineer Mohammad Zaker Hossain, Municipality Accountant and Acting Municipal Executive Officer Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Laksam Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazneen Sultana, Upazila Family Planning Officer Dr. Nazia Binte Alam, Municipality Health Officer and Divisional Head Dr. Md. Al Imran, Upazila Engineer Md. Sadiqul Jahan Ridon, Upazila Youth Development Officer Md. Delwar Hossain, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Upazila Social Service Officer Anaz Chandra Das, Upazila Assistant Agricultural Extension Officer Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, Laksam Fire Service Senior Station Officer – Mohammad Kabirul Islam, Journalist Correspondent Md. Abdul Quddus, Selim Chowdhury Hira, Youth Representative and Community Representative were present.
