A complaint has been filed against Ziaul Kabir, Deputy General Manager of Bakhrabad Gas Field Company in Muradnagar, Comilla, for selling land for road construction, selling trees, and embezzling lakhs of taka from land owned by Naishai and Gasfield.
On-site investigation revealed that this official, who claimed to be the president of BUET Chhatra League during his academic career, used to threaten officials and employees. Whenever any official and employee did not listen to him, he would harass them in various ways. This official has been serving as Deputy Manager, Manager, and Deputy General Manager of Bakhrabad Gas Field in Muradnagar, Comilla for the past 17 years. He used to introduce himself as a close associate of Engineer Abdur Sabur, the Science and Technology Affairs Secretary of the Awami League Central Committee and former MP nominated by the Awami League for Comilla-1 constituency.
Recently, Mercas Kazi Jahangir Trade Ltd. was awarded the contract to construct a 2,400-meter road and a partial drain at the entrance to the Bakhrabad Gasfield at a cost of Tk 5.1 million. After digging the box of the road, the excavated soil was sold to Mukbal Hossain, son of Julhas Mia, son of Ballabdi village adjacent to the gasfield, by the DGM of the gasfield, Ziaul Kabir, in collaboration with about 100 tractor contractors. Currently, when the issue of soil sale became known, there is anger and tension among the general public and gasfield officials and employees.
Before selling old machinery, trees, soil, etc. of any government or government autonomous organization, it should be sold according to government regulations by publishing a tender. But Ziaul Kabir has been doing this work without paying attention to the regulations by exerting influence.
On the spot, it was found that Mukbal Hossain of Ballabdi village bought excavated soil from the road in front of the entrance of Bakhrabad Gas Field and filled a pond.
When asked how he filled the pond with the soil from the road, Mukbal Hossain confirmed the matter of filling the soil and said, “I purchased the soil through a contractor in exchange for money.”
When asked about the sale of the soil from the road elsewhere, Md. Sumon, the side engineer of the road construction of the Bakhrabad Gas Field, said, “This is not correct. He can say that the contractor is doing this work.”
Akhter Hossain, a businessman in Bakhrabad Bazar, said, “Everyone knows about the sale of road soil by truck. However, I do not know whether the DGM did it or the contractor did it.”
When asked about this, Ziaul Kabir, Deputy General Manager of the Bakhrabad Gas Field Company, denied all the allegations against him and said that it was a conspiracy against him. The work is being done by a contractor, I have no chance to sell the land here. Whoever made this complaint is completely false. I live in a government bungalow, I pay whatever comes as government rent.
