Hamida Rahman, the wife of the late chairman of City Group, the country’s largest industrial company, and her son. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is going to file a fraud case against Hasan. These two are currently serving as directors of Citigroup. The ACC approved the case against them after finding the allegations of fraud to be true. ACC Deputy Director (Investigation and Investigation-6) Rizia Khatun, who is in charge of Sylhet, can be seen in an approval letter signed by the son of the late chairman of City Group.
The case against Hasan and his wife Hamida Rahman was approved against a total of four people. In addition, Moulvibazar Jury Range then range officer and currently retired forest ranger. Kamrul Mojahid and the then beat officer of Moulvibazar Juri Range, now forester of Mathbaria Social Forestry Center Ferdous Khan are accused of embezzling money through various frauds. ACC is going to file a case against these four people. The ACC has given permission to file a case against them under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act along with Section 409/420/109 of the Penal Code. Along with this, it has been ordered to take effective measures to file a case and send a copy of the statement, appointment of investigating officer and supervisory officer after filing the case. Share holding of City Group and New Sagarnal Tea Co. Ltd., Director of Sagarnal Hatchery and Fisheries Limited is in charge of City Group Chairman’s son Md. Hasan and wife Hamida Rahman. Earlier on July 14, 2022, a Chittagong court issued an arrest warrant against City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman.
The warrant was issued in a case filed by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). BSTI filed a case in the court on October 20, 2019 due to lack of Vitamin A in the edible oil of City Group. The court issued an arrest warrant against him in that case. Then last year on December 25, Fazlur Rahman died while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in the capital.
City Group has more than 40 industrial establishments. Their business is in flour and flour, edible oil and sugar refining, poultry feed and rice and pulses and other sectors. City Group Brand Manager Rubayet Ahmed told Dhaka Times, ‘I am not aware of the matter. ACC also does not know in whose name the company has sanctioned the case. The top management knows this.
