Begum Rokeya University (Berobi) student Abu Saeed, a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Quota Reform Movement, has been laid to rest. He was buried in the family graveyard at Babanpur in Pirganj on Wednesday (July 17) morning.

Earlier, the body was taken to Saeed’s house under heavy police guard in the morning. The funeral was completed in the presence of thousands of people at Kamil Madrasa ground in Zafar district. A large number of policemen were present at that time. Dean of the Faculty of Arts on behalf of the university at the funeral. Teachers including Shafiq Ashraf participated. Nephew Abu Siam Miah led the prayer congregation.

Meanwhile, mourning is going on in the area for Saeed’s death. The whole area has become heavy with the cries of fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and locals.

Incidentally, police and Chhatra League attacked the protestors during the quota reform movement on Tuesday afternoon. At that time, Saeed was shot by the police and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.

The deceased is a final year student of English Department of 12th batch of Saeed Rokeya University. Saeed’s father Maqbul Hossain is an active activist of Awami League. Said was the youngest among 9 brothers and sisters.

On the other hand, the house of Farooq, who died in the movement, is in Begamganj of Noakhali. He was buried in the morning at Chandina, Comilla, his father-in-law’s home area. Besides, Wasim Akram, who was killed in Pekua of Cox’s Bazar, is scheduled to be buried before noon.
