Selim Chowdhury Hira:
In his speech as the chief guest at a BNP public meeting in Laksam, Comilla, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said to the interim government, hold elections immediately. Don’t delay any longer. We will be elected by the people’s votes and come to power. A stable government is essential for the country’s development and order.
He said, the fascist Awami League has destroyed this country. It has destroyed the judicial system, the financial system and all departments of the state. It has taken away the people’s right to vote. It has formed the government by voting on its own. Seven hundred and fifty leaders, including Hiru-Humayun of Laksam, have been disappeared. Their children are still shedding tears.
He also said, the people of Laksam have been persecuted the most during the Awami League’s tenure. Those who have committed misdeeds will be forced to flee like MP Tajul Islam here, like Sheikh Hasina. We are cooperating with the interim government and will continue to do so. We also want reforms. However, the common people of this country do not understand reforms. They understand thick rice and thick cloth.
He said these things at a public meeting organized by Laksam Municipality and Manoharganj Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations at Laksam Stadium on Thursday afternoon to implement the 31-point state reforms.
The main speaker at the public meeting, BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, addressed the chief advisor and said that BNP will not accept local government elections before the national elections. It will not make decisions by listening to two or four minor advisors.
He said that in 1971, Sheikh Mujib surrendered to the Pakistanis and the leaders and activists of the Awami League went into hiding. During that critical period, martyred President Ziaur Rahman took charge of the country by declaring independence. If anyone from Sheikh Mujib’s family and anyone from the Awami League participated in the liberation war, I will migrate. Those who do not believe in the Liberation War do not have the right to seek votes in this country.
He also said, there is no alternative to unity. There will be no division among us. Everyone will have to work for the paddy sheaf whom the party nominates.
