Awami League leader and General Secretary of Bus-Coach Minibus Owners Association Golam Kibriza Bara Monir has been sent to jail without bail in Tangail rape case. Earlier he surrendered in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Tangail. Around 12 noon, Judge Md. Mahmudul Mohsin ordered to send him to jail without granting bail. However, the other defendant in the case, Golam Kibria’s wife, Nigar Aftab, did not surrender to the court. On the night of April 5, a teenage girl filed a case against Tangail-02 Constituency Member of Parliament Tanveer Hasan Chhota Moni’s elder brother Golam Kibria, alleging rape. His wife Nigar Aftab is also accused in the case. Tangail court government strategist (PP) advocate S. Akbar Khan said that on April 18, he obtained four weeks’ advance bail from the high court. After that, the state applied to the chamber judge’s court seeking suspension of bail. Following this, on April 30, Justice M Inayetur Rahim suspended the bail and ordered the two to surrender to the lower court within the next two weeks. According to the statement of the case, on December 17 last year, Golam called the girl to a building next to his house in the court neighborhood of Kibria city. Gholam Kibria locked him in a room after taking away his mobile phone. She was later raped and her obscene photographs were taken. Golam Kibria threatened him not to tell anyone about the matter.
