An incident of tree-throwing robbery took place on Kaliakore road in Gazipur. A journalist was tied up at gunpoint and robbed of his money and motorcycle. Later, the local people rescued the journalist with his hands and feet tied. The incident took place in Matikata area of ​​the upazila around 10:30 pm on Wednesday. According to the victim journalists and police sources, police patrols are continuing on regional roads to prevent robberies in various areas of Kaliakair upazila. In continuation of this, police patrolling on Matikata-Amtali road under the jurisdiction of Mouchak police outpost continued on Wednesday. But even then, avoiding the eyes of patrolling police, robbery and robbery occurred by throwing trees on that road. Journalist Jahangir Alam was robbed at around 10:30 pm on his way to his father-in-law’s house in Sutrapur area from his home Majhukhan. The gang of robbers left him with arms and legs tied and robbed him of around 8 thousand taka, motorcycle and 6/7 kg of fish. Later on his calls and shouts, the people around went to the spot and rescued the journalist with his hands and feet tied. After receiving the information, the Mouchak outpost police continued the operation to recover the motorcycle. Locals complain that not only the journalist, but even after the presence of patrolling police on that road, robberies have been happening at various times. Garment workers are the most victims of robberies. There are also complaints that many cannot return home with their salaries. However, the locals are expressing anger about the role of patrolling police.
Jahangir Alam, the victim journalist, said that as soon as the motorcycle slowed down after seeing trees lying on the road, some people came from both sides and held me hostage with native weapons. Meanwhile, they quickly snatched mobiles and other goods. After realizing that I am a journalist, he returned the mobile phone and other goods and tied his hands and feet and left them in a deserted place on the side of the road. Later they ran away after looting my money, motorcycle and fish. A complaint has been lodged with the police in this incident.
Saiful Alam, in-charge (SI) of Mouchak outpost police under Kaliakor police station, said that a police team was on patrol on that road. Even before that incident, he came through there on patrol. But soon after that the journalist became a victim of this incident. However, operations are underway to recover his motorcycle.
