A heinous robbery at British American Tobacco’s godown in Shariatpur: Three robbers arrested with 18 lakh taka

Three robbers have been arrested in connection with a heinous robbery at the godown of British American Tobacco Bangladesh Ltd. (BATB) in Shariatpur.
They were arrested in raids at various locations in the Khulna Metropolitan area.
During this time, the police recovered 18 lakh, 58 thousand, 965 taka, a pickup truck used in the robbery, various equipment, a 150 cc Pulsar motorcycle, and 50 mobile phones of different brands from them.
The arrested are Mehraj (50), Morshed (30) and Milan Molla (30). All of them live in Khulna district.
A press conference was organized by the district police in this regard at 11 am today, Wednesday, at the office of the Shariatpur Police Superintendent.
At a press conference, Superintendent of Police Md. Nazrul Islam said that on January 25, between approximately 1 am and 4:30 am, a heinous robbery took place at the godown of the office of British American Tobacco Bangladesh Ltd. located on the 2nd floor of Majid Zarina Foundation Market, North Palong, Shariatpur district town under Palong Model Police Station.
At that time, an unknown group of 6/7 robbers entered the godown by cutting the window grill on the west side and beat up the assistant godown keeper Laku Khan, assistant computer operator Shakeel and peon Mohammad Ali and tied their hands and feet with country-made weapons.
Later, the robbers broke into the cash vault kept in the godown and took away a total of 13.425 million taka kept in the vault, as well as 16 CCTV cameras, DVRs, and NVRs in the office.
In this incident, Md. Shafiul Alam Shihab, the plaintiff on behalf of British American Tobacco Bangladesh Ltd., filed a robbery case with Palong Model Police Station on January 26.
After the incident, a joint team formed by Palang Police Station and District Intelligence Branch under the direction of Superintendent of Police Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Adibul Islam, PPM-Services and Additional Superintendent of Police (Naria Circle) Ahsan Habib, started investigating the incident.
With the help of special information technology, intensive monitoring and investigation was started regarding the arrested robbers, including the collection of footage from the scene, global location tracking, and robbery cases in neighboring districts. Some robbers were identified through analysis of the information and data from the scene.
In continuation of this, with the help of Khulna Metropolitan Police, raids were conducted in various places in the Khulna Metropolitan area and members of the gang of robbers, Mehraj (50), Morshed (30) and Milan Mollah (30), were arrested.
The arrested robbers confessed to their involvement in the incident and revealed the names and addresses of the other robbers. The looted amount of 18,58,965 (eighteen lakh fifty eight thousand nine hundred sixty five) taka, a 1 (one) ton pickup truck used in the robbery, various equipment, a 150 cc Pulsar motorcycle and 50 mobile phones of different brands were recovered from them.
A review of the documents revealed that there is 1 case against Mehraj, 2 against Morshed, and 1 case against Milan Mollah.
Police Superintendent Md. Nazrul Islam said that efforts are underway to arrest other accused involved in the robbery. The case is currently under investigation. A police report will be submitted later based on the necessary evidence.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Adibul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Naria Circle) Ahsan Habib, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Palong Model Police Station Mohammad Helal Uddin and Inspector of District Detective Police Abu Bakar Matubbar were present at the time.
