A brutal robbery at the house of the former upazila freedom fighter commander in Debhata!

Debhata Correspondent: A brutal robbery took place at the house of a former upazila freedom fighter commander in Debhata. The incident took place at Jagannathpur village of the upazila on Friday (June 28) around 2 am. In the incident, Subhash Chandra Ghosh (62), son of deceased Nakul Chandra Ghosh of Jagannathpur village, former freedom fighter commander and district Puja Utyapan Committee president, filed a statement at Debhata police station.
Consumer Yogesh Chandra Ghosh said, around 2 am, my wife came to the room from the bathroom to open the door, suddenly some people cut the lock of the gate of our house and entered 5/6 with weapons in hand. They first entered my house and took me and my wife hostage at gunpoint. They say we are from the police station, we will not harm you, find out what is there. Then elder brother asked to take Subhash to Chandra’s room. While leaving the room and going up to the 2nd floor, my other brother took Prabhash’s wife Bijli Ghosh to the 2nd floor. They went there and tied our hands and eyes and started looting. They took my motorcycle while leaving.
Subhash Chandra Ghosh said, a group of robbers entered our house and robbed everyone at gunpoint. They looted various items including gold necklace, mobile, cash, a motorcycle, bank check book, passport from the house of our 4 brothers. Besides, they took the licensed gun from my nephew Saurabh (Bitu)’s house. He also said that the robbers were speaking the current language of Satkhira district. Some of them had open mouths, some had closed mouths.
After the incident, the Superintendent of Police of Satkhira District Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Debhata Circle and OC of Police of Debhata Police Station visited the spot.
Meanwhile, on Friday night (June 28), a water pump was stolen from the house of Banu Al Qaderi, a reserved UP member of Parulia Union. Besides, on February 7, a daring theft took place in 4 shops in one night in Parulia. Before this, on November 13, 2023, English teacher Ebadul Islam, a resident of Dakshin Sakhipur of Debhata Upazila, was robbed of 9 pieces of gold ornaments, 14 knuckles including 4 diamonds, 7 pairs of Nupur and 1 lakh 40 thousand in cash. In addition, various small thefts are happening constantly. Even though these crimes have occurred, two thieves have been arrested, but the culprits are not caught, the consumers complain.
Officer-in-charge of Debhata police station Sekh Mahmud Hossain said that a robbery had taken place. Police visited the spot. The robbers took away 10 bags of gold and 5 lakhs in cash. Police will take appropriate action in this regard.
