India made history on Wednesday (August 23) by becoming the fourth country in the world to reach the moon. They have done what no other country has done before. India’s Chandrayaan-3 has become the first vehicle to successfully land on the South Pole of the Moon. Behind this success was a group of enterprising scientists and engineers of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). And 54 of them were women. Apart from this, S. Somanath has contributed to many other missions including Gaganyaan (passenger mission) and Aditya-L1 (Sun mission). Apart from him, Chandrayaan-3 Project Director P Veeramuthuvel, Mission Director Mohana Kumar, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center Director S Unnikrishnan Nair, UR Rao Satellite Center Director M Sankaran, Launch Authorization Board (Lab) Chief A Rajarajan and associated projects also played an important role in this lunar mission. The director is Kalpanar. India’s lunar mission is dominated by men at the leadership level, but the contribution of women is not less. It is known that a total of 54 women scientists and engineers actively participated in this mission. They hold important posts like associate director, deputy project director and project manager of various systems, an ISRO official said. In the patriarchal society of the Indian subcontinent, barriers for women are endless. But they can also overcome all obstacles and succeed due to their own merits – this is what the women of ISRO have shown. ISRO officials burst into jubilation after Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the lunar surface on Wednesday. Women were not left out. The pictures of their joy have spread on social media. Pointing to these saree-wearing women, some have said that clothing is not a hindrance in work. Someone else said, just like a book cannot be considered by its cover, like a person by clothes.
