 In Sonaimuri, a complaint has been received of beating up the wife for dowry and seriously injuring her. This incident took place at Baorkot village of Jayag UP of Upazila on Saturday 5th August ’23. . According to the victim’s family and the source of the complaint, 8 years ago, during a discussion between the two families, Anwar Hossain (40), son of deceased Ali Akbar of Baorkot village of Joyag UP, paid Tk 3 lakh as a dowry to Hajera Akhtar, daughter of Harunur Rashid of Maniknagar village of Amisha Para UP. After marriage, dowry was demanded from the victim’s family on various pretexts. The elders of both families settled the issue of dowry through discussion. Husband Anwar Hossain made a verbal promise not to demand dowry from the victim’s family in the future. But later, the superstitious husband demanded dowry as before and beat the victim on Saturday afternoon, breaking the bone on the left wrist and causing serious injuries in various parts of the body. Locals rescued the victim and admitted him to Sonaimuri Upazila Health Complex (Bajra Hospital). Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Ziaul filed a complaint. Admitting the truth, the written complaint of the victim has been received. Legal action will be taken in the course of investigation.
