Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 50 more model mosques and Islamic cultural centers. On Sunday (July 30), the Prime Minister inaugurated these model mosques by connecting virtually from the Ganobhaban at 11:10 am. Minister of State for Religious Affairs at Ganobhaban. Faridul Haque Khan and other officials were present. Local administration officials and public representatives from Cox’s Bazar Sadar and Phultala Model Mosque in Khulna were virtually involved in the event.

In the event, it was informed that the government took a project of Tk 9,435 crore in 2017 to set up Islamic cultural centers and model mosques in every district and upazila of the country. The scheme titled ‘Establishment of 564 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in each District and Upazila’ (2nd Revised) is till June 2024. The Public Works Department is constructing the mosques.

In the meantime, the Prime Minister inaugurated a total of 200 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in the first phase on December 7, 2021, the second phase on January 16, 2023, the third phase on March 16, 2023 and the fourth phase on April 17. Imams and muezzins have also been appointed in these mosques. It was informed in the event that prayers are being offered.

According to the Ministry of Religion, each model mosque and Islamic cultural center is being built on 43 percent of the land in three categories. In this, four-storied model mosques and Islamic cultural centers are being constructed at the district and city corporation levels, three-storied at the upazila level and four-storied model mosques at the coastal areas. A total of 69 four-storied model mosques and Islamic cultural centers are being constructed in A-category 64 district cities and 5 in 3 city corporations. 479 model mosques are being constructed at B-category upazila level (including 4 newly formed upazilas) and 16 model mosques with four floors (ground floor will be empty) in C-category coastal areas. 1,200 worshipers can pray together in each four-story mosque. On the other hand, three-storied model mosques can accommodate 900 worshipers together.

The mosques will have separate ablution and prayer rooms for men and women, imam training centers, shelters, public education centers, research centers, libraries, funeral arrangements, funeral arrangements, registration of pilgrims, libraries, autism corner, e-corner, accommodation for foreign tourists. Apart from this, office arrangements have been made for officials and employees in the cultural center along with the accommodation of Imam-Muezzin.

Durgapur, Palashbari of Gaibandha, Nageshwari of Kurigram, Birampur of Dinajpur, Hatibandha of Lalmonirhat, Netrakona Sadar Upazila, Mohanganj and Khaliajuri of Netrakona, Dewanganj of Jamalpur, Trishal of Mymensingh, Barisalsingh Sadar, Daulatkhan of Bhola, Nalchiti of Jhalkathi, Mathbaria of Pirojpur, Brahmanbari. Yar Sarail, Haimchar of Chandpur and Hajiganj, Noakhali Model mosques and Islamic cultural centers have been inaugurated in Sadar, Nangalkot and Sadar of Comilla, Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Satkania of Chittagong, Chagalnaia of Feni, Kaukhali of Rangamati, Nanyarchar and Rajstali, Phultala and Paikgacha of Khulna, Magura District and Sadar Upazila, Meherpur Sadar, Golapganj Upazila of Sylhet.
