Teacher beaten up for banning smoking in autorickshaws

 In Borhanuddin, Bhola, an allegation of assault on a teacher was received for banning smoking in passenger auto-rickshaws.  Minar Mahmud is working as an assistant teacher in Purba Mulai Pattan Government Primary School.  He is the son of Azad Jahangir, a retired head teacher of Borhanganj Bazar, Pakchia Union.  A complaint has been lodged at the local police station on Tuesday night (July 11) in this incident.
 Minar Mahmud said that he has been suffering from fever for several days.  On Tuesday afternoon, he left the school with the permission of the headmaster due to his ill health.  He boarded an autorickshaw from Moniram Bazar.  On the way, Yasin Mal’s son Abul Mal got into an auto from a place called Abul Bazar.  He was smoking in the car.  At this time, the teacher prohibited smoking in the passenger transport.  Abul Mal became so angry.
The complaint states that when the auto-rickshaw came near the house of Hachan Ali Mall of Tobgi Ward No. 3, the auto was stopped with shouts.  People gathered and attacked the teacher.  The teacher was pulled out of the auto after hesitating with people.  Then he was beaten.  His clothes were torn.
 Later, Borhanuddin went to the hospital and received first aid and Miner Mahmud lodged a complaint with the local police station on Tuesday night.
 Mahbubur Rahman, president of the local primary teachers’ association, said, “We strongly condemn and protest for this disgraceful incident.”  Also, subject to investigation, I demand to bring the culprits under the law.
 Upazila Education Officer Hiraman Vaidya said, I contacted the concerned teachers after hearing the incident.  This is a sad and disgusting incident.  The culprits should be brought under the law and given exemplary punishment.
 Officer-in-charge of Borhanuddin police station Monir Hossain Mia said, a general diary has been made in this regard.  Action will be taken as per rules.
