In Harian Union Parishad (UP) elections of Paba Upazila of Rajshahi, 4 (four) candidates, including the current chairman Mofidul Islam Bachchu, have withdrawn their nomination papers for the post of chairman and members. On Sunday (July 25), the candidates withdrew their nomination papers by filing a written application with the Union Parishad Election Returning Officer on the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers. Current chairman Mofidul Islam Bachchu, Awami League leader Hasan Ahmad Jewel, Md Atiqur Rahman, Haji Md Obaidur Rahman have withdrawn their nominations for the post of UP chairman. It is known that they withdrew their nomination papers supporting Abul Hossain’s candidate. In this regard, Haji Md. Obaidur Rahman said, “Haji Md Obaidur Rahman has withdrawn the nomination paper after considering all aspects and supporting and respecting the boat candidate”. The current chairman Mofidul Islam Bachchu did not receive the mobile phone. Also, the candidates who withdrew their nomination papers for the post of UP General Member are Md. Mazdar Hossain of Ward 02, Md. Ayen Uddin, Md. Kamruzzaman Palash of Ward No. 3 and Md. Shahidul Islam of Ward No. 6. Paba Upazila Election Officer and Returning Officer Shahidul Islam Pramanik said that four candidates for chairman and four candidates for the post of members have withdrawn their nomination papers in the Harian UP elections. Now 76 people will contest the election. 6 people in the post of chairman and 19 people in the post of reserved women members and 51 people in the post of general members. Allotment of symbols will be held on Monday, June 26 and voting will be held in 9 centers of 9 wards on July 17. The total number of voters of Harian Union Parishad is 19528. Among them 9850 male voters and 9678 female voters. It should be noted that earlier 10 candidates for the post of chairman and 19 candidates for the post of member in the reserved seat and 55 candidates for the post of member in the general seat (total 84) submitted nomination papers and were valid candidates.
