The students of the Majida Khatun Government Women’s College have formed a human chain to demand trial and exemplary punishment for the undesired, demonic brutal attack and rape of the students of the said college.
“Ensure women’s right not to speak, develop a mentality of not listening”On June 22 (Thursday) at noon, a protest procession organized by the students of Lalmonirhat Govt. Majida Khatun Govt. Mahila College took place in front of the college from the Superintendent of Police’s office on Burimari-Lalmonirhat highway. Students stood there and spoke.
Later, they went in front of the District Commissioner’s office and protested with slogans. They said, “Our classmate has been gang-raped.” But, they expressed anger as not all the accused have been arrested till now. They also said that the airport is a protected area, we do not want such barbaric incidents there. They demanded to strengthen security in the area so that such incidents do not happen again in the future.
A college student was gang-raped by her alleged boyfriend and his accomplice in a corn field near the Lalmonirhat Air Force Runway on the evening of June 17. Later, when the victim’s family called 999, the Lalmonirhat Sadar police station reached the spot and rescued the college student and admitted her to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital. The elder sister of the victim filed a complaint with the police station mentioning the mobile number of Sohag, the alleged lover of the student. Later, the police arrested a person named Sajeeb in this incident.
