The workers of Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj river port have started an indefinite strike from Sunday afternoon. They are holding this program to protest the beating of workers without any reason. As a result, the unloading of goods from the ships of that port is stopped. 30-40 ships are stuck in the river port.
Habibullah Bahar, the central coordinator of Nauyan Sramik Federation, said that the leaders of Bangladesh Cargo Vessel Owners Association and Water Transport Cell came to Ashuganj on Saturday. At that time the workers of some ships at anchor were beaten without any reason. The workers are not going to work in protest.
Nazmul Hossain Hamdu, Central Vice-President of Bangladesh Cargo Vessel Owners Association and Co-Convener of Water Transport Cell, said that the ships anchored at Ashuganj port with various products without serials without following the rules. At this time, the workers on the ship were asked to show the documents. Then they could not show the documents, so there was a discussion about it. Allegation of beating someone is false.
