Additional Superintendent of Police of Naria Circle Russell Monir and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Setu South Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman have been accused of torturing the two accused who were granted bail by the High Court by keeping them in the police station after demanding Tk 72 lakh. On Tuesday, the victim’s elder brother Abu Zafar filed a complaint with Thandu District Superintendent of Police. A three-member committee has been formed in this incident. Shariatpur Superintendent of Police said that legal action will be taken if they are involved in the incident. According to police, victims and complaint sources, a robbery case was registered in Padma Bridge South Police Station under the Speedy Trial Act on May 23. In the case, Naodoba Ahmed Chokdar of Jazira Upazila of Shariatpur, Saddam Chokdar, Bakul Chokdar of Kandi area were accused. In that case, three accused got bail from the High Court on May 29. After coming out on bail, on the night of May 30, Saddam, Bakul along with accused Saidul Sheikh, Anwar went to the residence of Saddam’s friend Alamgir Chokdar in Keraniganj, Dhaka. That night after getting the information, Additional Superintendent of Police Russell Monir and OC Mostafizur Rahman, Jazira Upazila Chhatra League President Rubel Bepari and 10/12 policemen appeared at that house. Additional Superintendent of Police Russell tore up their bail papers as soon as Saddam showed them. Later, the accused started beating Saddam and Bakul severely with police batons, sticks, hammers along with kicks, punches and slaps. At one point, fingernails and toenails were removed with a pliers. Additional Superintendent of Police Russell Monir made the younger brother Bakul stand up and urinate in the elder brother’s mouth when the elder brother Saddam wanted to drink water. Later, Bakul urinated on Saddam’s body. Such torture lasted from 1 am to 8 am the next day on May 31. After some time, the four people were blindfolded with towels and black cloths and brought under the Padma bridge at Jazira end in a car. Later, Saddam-Bakul and Saidul-Anwar were taken to two places. Additional Superintendent of Police and OC told Saddam-Bakul and gave Saidul-Anwar crossfire. If you pay 72 lakh taka, you will also be given crossfire. In this way, they brought him to the Padma Setu South Police Station at night and asked for 72 lakh Tk. The torture lasted all night. Despite that, they did not stop and brought Bakul’s wife Sanjida, two younger children, father Rashid Chokdar, mother Ramela and cousin Abu Zafar Thandu to the police station, detained them overnight and physically abused them. Later, his relatives were freed from torture when they paid a check of Rs 72 lakh through five checks to the Additional Superintendent of Police and OC. During these two days they screamed in pain but the Additional Superintendent of Police and OC did not give them food and medicine. Later on the afternoon of June 1, Saddam and Bakul were sent to jail through the Shariatpur court. Later, the police applied for a five-day remand. The District and Sessions Judge did not grant remand. On the afternoon of June 6, Saddam and Bakul were granted bail by the court.
According to the source of the extortion case, Shaheen Alam Sheikh (20) and Sekender Madbar (51), residents of Jazira Upazila, were forcibly taken down from the Sohag Paribahan of the Naodoba area of the Padma Bridge Jazira area on the afternoon of May 21, and the foreign dollars, mobile phones and other belongings with them were taken away by the local Saddam. 10/11 people including Chokdar, Bakul Chokdar. In this incident, on May 23, Shaheen Alam Sheikh became the plaintiff and mentioned that the goods and dollars were robbed at the Padma Bridge South Police Station (a total of 21 lakh rupees). However, locals said that Shaheen Alam Sheikh and Saddam Chokdar have been enmity with business related matters for a long time. Victims Saddam Chokder and Bakul Chokder said, a robbery case was filed against 8 of us at Padma Setu South Police Station. Three of us got bail from the High Court in that case. However, Additional Superintendent of Police of Naria Circle Russell Monir and OC of Padma Setu South Police Station Mostafizur Rahman Sir demanded Tk 72 lakh in our police station and a house. They beat us severely. Not only that, they removed fingernails and toenails. Then we were groaning in pain. But they were not fooled. Tortured for 30 hours, but they did not give food and medicine. Later elder brother Thandu forced to sell two houses to Chokdar. Later, Thandu Chokdar through his uncle Rashid Chokdar gave a check of 72 lakh rupees to Additional Superintendent of Police and OC sir through five checks. Thandu Chokdar said that the two parties sat in court on May 31 at Bakul’s house in connection with the robbery case. I was present there. When I went home after the Durbar, Padma Setu South Police Station OC Investigation Saruj, SI Feroz Al Mamun along with 7/8 people grabbed me and took me to the police station. Later they blindfolded me with a cloth and took me to the OC’s room and beat me from 1 am to 5 am. When I screamed, the Additional Superintendent of Police moved to Circle Russell Monir and said, “You will get rid of Saddam and Bakul with 72 lakh taka.” Then he agreed and let me go. Later, to save the younger brothers of the clan, Saddam and Bakul, through my uncle Rashid Chokdar, I gave a check of 72 lakh rupees to OC Mostafizur Rahman sir. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma South Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman denied this and said on mobile phone that the plaintiffs in the robbery case beat them up. I have no involvement in this matter. I don’t know about the check either. In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police of Naria Circle Russell Monir could not be reached even after repeated calls on his mobile phone. Police Superintendent of Shariatpur.
