The Students from the Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies department of Islamic University in kushtia staged a demonstration on Thursday in response to an alleged attack on Professor M Mostafizur Rahman. The attack was reportedly carried out by M Shohel Mahmud, an official from Agrani Bank. Around one hundred students of the department assembled in front of the university’s main entrance and proceeded to block the Kushtia-Jhenaidah Highway at around 9:00 am, demanding immediate arrest of Kushtia Chourhash Agrani Bank official M Shohel Mahmud.

The protesting students appealed to the university administration to take firm action against the bank official who assaulted Professor Mostafiz while he was walking along the road on Wednesday morning. The students declared that they would continue their demonstration until their demand for the arrest of the bank official was met.

During the protest, no vehicles were allowed to pass through the Kushtia-Jhenaidah Highway, causing inconvenience to commuters traveling from distant districts.

In response to the situation, a team from the university’s proctorial body arrived at the spot and successfully brought the situation under control. The students decided to end their demonstration around 10:00 am after receiving assurance from the proctorial body that they would address the matter.

Earlier, Shohel assaulted Professor Mostafiz on Wednesday morning due to a land-related dispute between them. Shohel attacked Mostafiz while he was walking on the road, beating him with a bamboo stick and causing injuries. Mostafiz was later rescued by other people and taken to Kushtia General Hospital for medical treatment. Later, Professor Mostafiz lodged a written complaint with the university’s registrar, proctor, and teachers’ association, highlighting the extreme insecurity faced by him and his family.
