 May 31, 23rd The court sentenced the accused to death for murdering him in the fields of Joypurhat for money owed and sentenced him to five years in prison for giving false testimony in the plaintiff’s court. Along with this, he ordered a fine of 50,000 taka for the accused and 10,000 taka for the plaintiff, and 6 months of unpaid imprisonment. Judge Mohammad Abbas Uddin of Joypurhat Additional Sessions Judge Court gave the verdict on Wednesday (May 31) noon. According to the source of the case, Shahin Alam of the same village received seven thousand rupees from Alam Khan of Mohbatpur village in Kshetlal of the district. On the night of May 20, 2006, Shahin called Alam Khan for that money and strangled him to death at his home. Anjuara Begum, the wife of Alam Khan, who was killed in this incident, filed a case in the court naming seven people as the plaintiff. A murder case was registered in Kshetlal police station on January 14, 2007 on the orders of the court. In the same year on April 4, sub-inspector Ashraful Islam filed a charge sheet in the concerned court mentioning the names of seven people. After a long hearing, the court sentenced Shaheen Alam to death and fined Tk 50,000 and acquitted the six accused. One of the accused died during the trial. Also, for giving false testimony, the plaintiff in the case, Alam Khan’s wife, Anjuara Begum, was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to serve another six months without labor without paying a fine of Tk 10,000.
