Mymensingh City Corporation Mayor Md Ikramul Haque Titu has distributed mosquito nets to 200 poor people to prevent dengue and leaflets to increase public awareness. The mayor inaugurated the awareness campaign by distributing leaflets containing awareness messages on prevention of dengue at Nagar Bhaban premises at 11 o’clock today and later he distributed mosquito nets as the chief guest at a function organized at Shaheed Shahabuddin Auditorium. Funded by the US CDC, Save the Children and Mymensingh City Corporation jointly organized the Bangladesh Urban Public Health System Strengthening Project in this dengue prevention program, in addition to the distribution of mosquito nets, 10,000 homes will be searched for Aedes mosquito breeding sites from July to September and leaflets will be provided to increase awareness. In the event organized on the occasion of the distribution of mosquito nets, the mayor said that awareness should be given first priority to prevent dengue. Aedes mosquito larvae can breed in clean water that collects in and around our homes. Therefore, there is no substitute for individual awareness. He also said that various media including distribution of leaflets, miking, house-to-house campaign are being conducted to create public awareness. Apart from this, mosquito eradication activities are also ongoing. It is hoped that Mymensingh City Corporation area will be dengue free this year too with everyone’s cooperation. Md Yusuf Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Mymensingh City Corporation presided over the mosquito distribution meeting. The meeting was conducted by Chief Health Officer Dr HK Debnath. At this time, Panel Mayor of Mosik 03 Samima Akhter, Public Relations Officer Sheikh Mahabul Hossain Rajeev, US CDC Project Manager Dr. Obaidur Rahman, Public Health Specialist Dr. Fahmida Islam Lima, Councilors of Mosik, journalists and others were present.
