The Bangladesh Hajj Office of Saudi Arabia issued a show-cause notice to seven officials and employees for traveling to Taif, a city near Mecca, without permission without providing services to the pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. According to the information, 7 Bangladeshi officials including women went to Taif city outside Makkah without the permission of the Bangladesh Hajj Office in Saudi Arabia. Last Friday (May 26), these officials and employees were given this notice separately.
The 7 Bangladeshi officials who have been issued show cause notices are, Maintenance Engineer of Public Administration Computer Center (PACC) Md. Liaqat Ali, Personal Officer of Economic Relations Department Md. Noor Islam, Office Assistant of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Laiju Akhter, Special Branch of Police ( Â SB) Deputy Inspector of Police (SI) Rahima Akhter, Administrative Officer of Ministry of Public Administration Jahan Ara Begum, Administrative Officer of Cabinet Division Md Saidur Rahman and Shahena Khanam.
The notice mentions that various officials and employees have been sent to Saudi at government expense to serve the pilgrims. Although the team members are engaged in the service of the pilgrims, these seven neglected their duties and went to Taif, a city outside Mecca, without the permission of the authorities. Their behavior is considered to create a negative attitude among the pilgrims, tarnish the country’s image and waste public money.
Such activities are in contravention of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ ‘Duties and Training Guidelines for Hajj Team Members’ and ‘Government Employment Act, 2018’. Therefore, Hajj Councilor Md. Zahirul Islam was asked to provide an explanation. Otherwise the authorities will take legal action against them as per the rules.
