In the space of a week, the price of onion in the market of Pabna has increased by Tk 400-500 per maund. On Friday (May 26) at the wholesale market in Pabna, each onion was sold for Tk 2,300 to Tk 2,700. That is, wholesale onion has been sold at the rate of Tk 57-67 per kg. First the interest of the farmer will be seen and then the decision to export onion will be made – Minister of Agriculture Dr. Onion prices increased after Abdur Razzak’s announcement. The agriculture minister said this at a gathering of onion farmers at Sujanagar and Santhia in Pabna on Tuesday (May 23). Earlier, the commerce minister announced the import of onion, which started the price fall. On Friday (May 26), one of the biggest onion markets in Pabna went to Chinakra of Sujanagar upazila, it was seen that the farmers are selling each onion at the price of Tk 2300-2700 per maund. Small (seed onions) costs a little less. Talking to onion farmers, it is known that the announcement of government policy makers plays a role in the fluctuation of onion prices. They said that on May 19, the highest price of onion was 2800-2900 taka in the market of Pabna. But on Saturday (May 20) the day after the Minister of Commerce hinted at onion import, the best quality onion was sold at Tk 2200-2400.
