Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Md. Nizamul Haque Nasim said that there is a need for digital security law to amend the Press Council Act and prevent malpractice. Presently the Press Council Punishment in law is reprimand. On May 16, Bangladesh Press Council organized a seminar and exchange of views with the journalists of print, electronic and online media in the hall room of Moulvibazar Circuit House on notification of Press Council Act-1974, Code of Conduct and Right to Information Act-2009. He said this in his guest speech. He proposed to amend this law and introduce the provision of fines to a maximum fine of 5 lakh taka. According to the current Press Council Act, the Press Council is limited in taking disciplinary action against a journalist who commits an offence. So many are discouraged from complaining to the Press Council. As a result, the concerned victim was brought to court. He said- We should get out of bad journalism. Digital security laws are needed to prevent disinformation. Deputy Commissioner of Bangladesh Press Council Masud Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Sudarshan Kumar Roy spoke as special guests in the seminar and exchange meeting organized under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Prabhanshu Som Mahan. District Information Officer Md. Anwar Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
