After selection, the returning officer declared the nomination papers of 4 mayoral candidates invalid and the nomination papers of 3 mayoral candidates valid.

The returning officer said that independent candidates have to give the names and signatures of 300 voters supporting the candidate along with the nomination papers. But independent mayor candidate Al Amin. Abdullah Chowdhury, SM Shafiqur Rahman and Syed Kamrul Islam submitted the voters’ signatures by forgery. That is why their nomination papers have been cancelled.
Apart from this, the nomination of Zaker Party candidate SM Sabbir Hossain has been canceled for not submitting the income tax return along with the nomination.
He said that the nomination papers of Talukdar Abdul Khalek of Awami League, Maulana Abdul Awal of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Shafiqul Islam Madhu of Jatiya Party have been validated. Candidates whose nomination papers have been canceled can appeal to the Khulna Divisional Commissioner within 3 days.
Meanwhile, from 11 o’clock, the process of selection of nomination papers of 149 councilor candidates of general 31 wards and 39 women councilor candidates of reserved 10 wards started. Which will continue till 4 pm.
The returning officer said that the candidature can be withdrawn till May 25. Symbols will be allotted on May 26. The total number of voters in this election is about 5 lakh 35 thousand. There will be 289 polling stations and 1,732 polling booths.
