Rally and discussion held in Gazipur on National Legal Aid Day

“Fulfillment of Bangabandhu’s dream, opening the door to free legal services” on the occasion of National Legal Aid Day-2023 on Friday (April 28) at 9 am by the initiative of Gazipur District Legal Aid Committee. The rally was organized. The rally circled Rajbari Road and ended at the Judge Court area. Gazipur Legal Aid Committee Chairman and Senior District and Sessions Judge Mumtaz Begum led the rally and Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Judge (District Judge) Shamima Afroz, Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Qaiserul Islam were present in the rally. , Additional District and Sessions Judges and all Magistrate Judges, Police Superintendent Kazi Shafiqul Islam, District Bar President Advocate Md. Ahchan Uddin Pradhan, General Secretary Advocate Mizanur Rahman, Senior Lawyers of Gazipur Bar Association, Government Counsel, State Counsel, District Social Services Deputy Director S. . M Anwarul Karim, Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs, District Information Officer, Chairman of National Women’s Organization, representatives of various NGOs and donors, journalists of print and electronic media, administration officials, employees, all employees of judiciary and leaders of political parties. After that a discussion meeting was held in the court hall room under the chairmanship of Senior District and Sessions Judge Mumtaz Begum. Officials of various departments under the district administration, lawyers and court officials spoke in it. It was mentioned in the discussion meeting that under the overall supervision of the District Legal Aid Committee, Gazipur Legal Aid Office is continuously working to make the legal activities of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh successful. As a result of this, in 2021, Gazipur Legal Aid Office was selected as the best Legal Aid Office in Dhaka Division. From the year 2022 to March 2023, a total of 863 applications have been accepted at the Gazipur Legal Aid Office, a total of 1060 people have been provided legal advice services from the Gazipur Legal Aid Office, a total of 139 have been successfully settled through ADR, the total amount has been collected = 46,36,068/- Rs. In addition, Gazipur District Legal Aid Committee Chairman discussed the duties and roles of District Legal Aid Committee, Upazila Legal Aid Committee and Union Legal Aid Committee and emphasized on making legal aid activities more dynamic at marginal level. He expressed hope that through the successful observance of “National Legal Aid Day-2023” public awareness about the state legal aid program will increase and the legal aid program will be more dynamic. Bangladesh will soon be established in the court of the world as a non-discrimination modern state with the collective and united efforts of all. At the beginning of the rally, District Legal Aid Committee Chairman and Senior District and Sessions Judge Mumtaz Begum inaugurated the program of the day by flying a pigeon.
