Former Rajbari MP Kazi Keramat Ali on remand

A court has granted a two-day remand to former Rajbari-1 MP Kazi Keramat Ali, who is in jail in a case related to an attack and shooting during an anti-discrimination student movement. He has also been arrested in another case for the same crime.

Judicial Magistrate Md. Tamzid Ahmed gave the order after the hearing on Monday (April 28). Kazi Keramat Ali was taken to the Rajbari Sadar Amli Court for the hearing of the case at around 12:15 pm.

Rajbari Court Police Inspector (Sadar Court) Md. Jasim Uddin said that the investigation officer of the case, Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Enayet Sikder, requested to show Kazi Keramat Ali under arrest in a case filed by Zisan Khan at Rajbari Sadar Police Station on September 2, 2024, on charges of attacking and firing during the anti-discrimination student movement. After the hearing, the court granted the request to show him under arrest.

On the other hand, Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mikail Hossain, the investigation officer of the case, applied for a seven-day remand of Keramat Ali in a case filed by Rajib Mollah at Rajbari Sadar Police Station on August 30, 2024, alleging an attack and shooting during the anti-discrimination student movement.

On behalf of Kazi Keramat Ali, his lawyers applied for bail, seeking cancellation of the remand. After the hearing, the court ordered his remand for two days.

It is worth mentioning that Rajib Mollah, a fourth-year political science student of Rajbari Government College, filed a case with Rajbari Sadar Police Station on August 30, naming 170 people, including Kazi Keramat Ali, on charges of attacking and firing during the anti-discrimination student movement. An unknown 300 other people were named as accused in the case. In this case, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) arrested Kazi Keramat Ali from the capital’s Mohakhali area on the night of April 6.

The next day, at around 12:15 pm on April 7, he was produced before the Rajbari Sadar Amli Court and his lawyers applied for bail. After the hearing, the court’s judge, Judicial Magistrate Md. Tamzid Ahmed, rejected his bail application and ordered him to be sent to prison.

Since then, he has been in the district jail in this case. Today, he was shown arrested in another case of the same crime. Former MP Kazi Keramat Ali was seen being taken away in handcuffs with both hands behind his back while being sent to jail from the court.
