The Day of Frontal War and Resistance was observed in Goalando Upazila of Rajbari. On this day, on April 21, the entire people of the upazila fought frontal war against the Pakistani occupying forces.
On Monday (April 21) at 10 am, local residents, including children of martyred families, organized a discussion meeting and Milad Mahfil in Bahadur Pur area of ​​the upazila to mark the day.
On this day in 1971, during the War of Independence, the Pakistani army attacked the Goalando Ghat on the Padma River and committed mass genocide against unarmed people.
On this day, at dawn, an invading force arrived from Arichaghat in a gunboat and a K-type ferry and landed in the Kamardangi area of ​​Ujanchar Union, then Goalando subdivision.
There, with the help of the local people, a group of EPR, Ansar, and Mukti Bahini created resistance with light weapons. A frontal battle began.
But the resistance of the Liberation Army collapsed within a short time in the face of the heavy weapons of the Pakistani army.
During this time, Ansar commander Mohiuddin Fakir was martyred by enemy bullets. Then, the Pak army surrounded the neighboring Baliadanga village from all sides and carried out a massive massacre. They burned the houses of innocent villagers. There, 24 freedom-loving people of Baliadanga village were martyred by the invaders’ bullets.
These are Jindar Ali Mridha, Nayeb Ali Bepari, Matiar Begum, Joynuddin Fakir, Kader Ali Molla, Hamed Ali Sheikh, Kanai Sheikh, Fulburu Begum, Molayem Sardar, Burujan Bibi, poet Tofazzal Hossain, Amjad Hossain, Madhav Bairagi, Ahmed Ali Mandal, Khodeja Begum, Karim Molla, Amod Ali Sheikh, Kuran Sheikh, Moksed Ali Sheikh, Nishikant Roy, Machem Sheikh, Dhalaburu Begum, Aleya Khatun, Bahez Pagla and many others whose names are unknown. Since then, this day is considered as Goalanda Resistance Day by local freedom fighters and ordinary people.
Engineer Jewel Bahadur presided over the event, and former principal of Government Goalanda Kamrul Islam College Khandaker Mohit Hira, municipal BNP president Abul Kashem Mondal, former instructor PTI Mofizul Islam Tansen, etc. were present as the chief guests.
The speakers emphasized the need to celebrate this glorious day of the Goalanda resistance war on a larger scale, both government and non-government, to present it to the new generation. They also sought the cooperation of everyone at the government and non-government levels to quickly complete the unfinished work of the memorial sculpture under construction here.
