An elderly man named Akkas Ali Sheikh died while trying to stop a fight. Police sent his body to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday night in the Kumrakandi Mahalla of Goalanda Municipality in Rajbari.
According to the police, the deceased’s family and local sources, Akkas Ali Sheikh (65) is a resident of Kumrakandi Mahalla of Goalanda Municipality. Farid Sheikh (42) and Liton Sheikh (38), sons of Gias Uddin Sheikh of the same Mahalla, have set up a quail farm next to his house. Farid and Liton had a previous dispute with the family of the elderly Akkas Sheikh over this. They are each other’s neighbors.
On the day of the incident, on Friday (April 18), around 10 pm, Farid and Liton first had an argument with Shaheen Sheikh, son of old Akkas Ali, over the stench emanating from the quail farm. At one point in the argument, a fight broke out between the two parties. Meanwhile, old Akkas was trying to stop the fight by coming out of the house to save his son Shaheen. Then, the old man suffered a heart attack due to the opponent’s push and fell to the ground. The family members took Akkas Ali Sheikh to Goalanda Upazila Health Complex Hospital along with him. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the information, the police quickly reached the spot and recovered the body of Akkas Ali Sheikh. The body has been sent to the morgue of Rajbari Sadar Hospital for autopsy on Saturday.
Goalanda Ghat Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Uttam Kumar Ghosh confirmed the truth and said that the family of the deceased is in the process of filing a case with the police station in this incident. He also said that the real cause of death of the elderly Akkas Ali Sheikh will be known after receiving the autopsy report.
