A mysterious death of a student named Samia Akhtar (13), a 7th grade student of Iqra Mahila Madrasa in Laksam, Comilla, has been reported.
The incident took place late last Thursday night at Kamal Tower in the area adjacent to Laksam Municipality. The deceased student is the daughter of Mizanur Rahman, an expatriate from Nagoda village in Nangalkot Municipality of the district.
The body of the deceased student has been recovered by Dhanmondi Police Station and sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Nasir Uddin, the maternal uncle of the deceased Samia, has filed an accidental death case with Laksam Police Station as the plaintiff.
There is widespread discussion and criticism among the locals about whether the student’s death was a murder or an accident.
It is learned that Samia Akhter was a resident of Iqra Mahila Madrasa in Laksam and was studying in the 7th grade.
Late last Thursday night, the student fell through the window grill on the 5th floor of the madrasa and a part of her body was crushed. Hearing the student’s screams, locals came and rescued her, gave her first aid at the local Amena Medical Center and transferred her to Comilla for advanced treatment and later to Dhaka Pangu Hospital. The right side of the student’s body was crushed.
She died while undergoing treatment at Dhanmondi Popular Hospital in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police and Laksam Circle Officer Showen Majumder of Comilla Police visited the scene. And ordered the madrasa headmaster and teachers to be questioned.
Meanwhile, Jamal Hossain, the headmaster of Iqra Mahila Madrasa, was brought to the police station for questioning.
There is widespread discussion and criticism among the locals about whether the student’s death was a murder or an accident. It is worth noting that there are also rumors about why the madrasa authorities did not inform the police about the incident immediately after the incident.
Laksam Police Station OC (Investigation) Anwar Hossain confirmed the truth of the incident.
