Md. Shafiq Dhali: On 16 April Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, said that legal action will be taken against anyone burning waste in open places including Matuail and Aminbazar. Action will be taken after identifying the government and private individuals responsible for burning waste.
She said that construction materials should be covered to prevent air pollution. Sand and construction materials should be transported covered. Otherwise, action will be taken. The Department of Environment, RAJUK, City Corporation and other relevant agencies including magistrates will work together for this purpose.
She said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a view-sharing meeting organized at the conference room of the Ministry of Environment at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The meeting discussed coordinated steps to control air pollution in Dhaka.
The advisor said that it must be ensured that service providers do not dig roads separately. ‘No Brick Field Zone’ will be implemented. Water will be sprinkled on the roads and their surroundings. If the law is not followed, special drives will be conducted based on the region.
He also said that the city must be made green. Grass should be planted on the road dividers. Air pollution must be reduced for future generations. People must be involved in the work.
The meeting, chaired by Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Dr. Farhina Ahmed, was also attended by Secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works Md. Nazrul Islam, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam, BRT Chairman Md. Yasin, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Md. Shamim Akhtar, Additional Secretary (Environment) Dr. Fahmida Khanam and Director General of the Department of Environment Dr. Kamruzzaman, among others.
