The ACC has arrested four officials of the Pirojpur LGED’s District Accounts Office and an employee of the LGED office on corruption charges. They were taken into custody at Pirojpur Sadar Police Station after their arrest on Wednesday (April 16) night.
The arrested are Pirojpur District Accounts and Finance Officer Md. Mohsin, SAS Super Md. Masum Hawlader and Nazrul Islam, former District Accounts and Finance Officer Md. Alamgir Hasan and Pirojpur LGED Office Accountant AKM Mozammel Haque Khan.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pirojpur ACC’s Integrated District Office Deputy Director Md. Aminul Islam filed 8 cases accusing 23 people. Later on Wednesday, 5 of the accused were arrested.
It is worth noting that after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, several investigation teams from the Local Government Department and the LGED head office found evidence of unlimited corruption in the Pirojpur LGED office. The investigation committee found irregularities in the expenditure of Tk 1,101 crore, including paying bills of more than Tk 1,000 crore to the contractor without completing the work.
Later, the ACC investigated the matter. It found evidence that officials of the Pirojpur LGED office and the District Accounting Office were involved in this. After that, the ACC filed a case against them.
