Comilla Correspondent:
It has been alleged that an influential ‘syndicate’ is active in supplying construction materials in the Daulatpur area under the Kotwali Model Police Station of Comilla city. This syndicate has been accused of attacking a certain businessman, behind which there is an attempt to force him to purchase goods.
A victim businessman named Md. Abu Kausar has alleged that he is serving as the Managing Director of OK Tower 08 of Insaf Garden City and has been working on several construction projects in the Daulatpur area for the past few days. The accused had been continuously pressuring him to purchase construction materials—such as bricks, sand, stone, cement, etc.—from them.
The incident began around 10 pm on April 11. Accused Mahfuzul Haque intercepted a stone-laden truck coming from Sylhet and informed Kausar on his mobile phone. Later, accused Sohel and Mamun contacted him on mobile phone and said that in future all construction materials will have to be purchased from that ‘syndicate’.
Kaushar alleged that the incident took its final form on April 13 at around 11 am. At that time, an accused named Tanvir again seized a stone truck and when Kaushar went to the spot, he had an argument with Tanvir. At one point, Tanvir hit Kaushar on the right arm with a knife in his hand, resulting in serious injuries.
When locals came forward, the accused fled, but the complaint states that Kaushar threatened to kill him while leaving. Later, he sought treatment at Comilla General Hospital and attached the medical documents with the charge sheet.
Kaushar mentioned the names of two more people as witnesses to the incident—Harish Mia and Abdur Rahim, who were reportedly present at the spot.
When Kotwali Model Police Station was contacted to inquire about this, the authorities said that the complaint has been initially accepted and the matter is under investigation. They assured that necessary legal action will be taken against the accused.
Chairman of Insaf Housing, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Comilla Metropolitan, Professor AKM Emdadul Haque Mamun said that no kind of goods were sold by force by any kind of syndicate,
It is not right to involve Mahfuz and me in the structure, it is baseless .The one with whom the problem has arisen can be talked about being tried, Analysts say that such a ‘syndicate’ is not only harming the businessmen, but is also hindering local development activities. The administration should quickly investigate and uproot this syndicate.
