Khulna Correspondent:
Students have entered the campus of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) through a police cordon amid tight security. Around 3 pm on Sunday, around 150 students entered the campus in a group. Although a large number of police were present at the gate at the time, no one stopped them.
After about 52 days, the students entered the campus and took up positions in the administrative building. They remained there and demanded that the halls be opened.
Meanwhile, a delegation of teachers approached the students at around 3:45 pm. The teachers told them that it was not possible to open academic activities and halls without a syndicate meeting.
At this time, Provost of Rokeya Hall, Professor Dr. Ashraful Alam, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Professor Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Provost of Fazlul Haque Hall Professor Dr. ABM Awlad Hossain, Provost of Amar Ekushey Hall Professor Dr. Salauddin Ahmed, Associate Director of Student Welfare Associate Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Assistant Director of Student Welfare Rajan Kumar Raha, Professor Dr. Faruk Hossain, General Secretary of the Teachers’ Association Md. Abdul Aziz were present.
Earlier, students announced their entry into the closed Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) campus, ignoring the authorities’ ban. The KUET administration took various steps, including deploying additional police at the gate, to prevent their entry. This led to tension. Students started gathering in front of the main gate from 2 pm on Sunday. At one point, teachers went there. After discussions between the two parties, the students were allowed to enter the campus after verifying their ID cards.
Incidentally, clashes broke out on the KUET campus on February 18 over a dispute over a demand to ban student politics. More than a hundred students were injured in the incident. Following the incident, the authorities announced the closure of academic activities and residential halls until further notice on February 25.
For the past few days, students have been announcing on social media that they will enter the KUET campus, which is closed at 2 pm on Sunday, and gather in the halls. To prevent this, the university authorities held several meetings, issued letters and notifications to various administrative departments, and sent SMS messages to parents requesting them not to send students to KUET.
