Milon Rayhan,Joypurhat Correspondent: On 13 April 2025 Masud Rana, a cashier of the bank, withdrew nearly three crore taka from the accounts of various customers and institutions at the Akkelpur Agent Banking Branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited in Joypurhat. The aggrieved customers formed a human chain demanding the money back in this incident. On Sunday afternoon, they formed an hour-long human chain in front of the Islami Bank District Branch Office in Joypurhat city. Later, they presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner along with a protest procession.
Speaking at the time, Akkelpur Hi-Tech Kindergarten Garden Headmaster Abdus Salam, Darul Quran Madrasa Mahatamim Mufti Firoz Ahmed, Madrasa Education Secretary Abdul Mannan and Senior Madrasa Lecturer Jamal Uddin.
The speakers said that Masud Rana, a cashier of Islamic Agent Bank, had embezzled about 30 million taka from the accounts of various customers. Later, the police arrested three people, including the owner of the branch, but they were granted bail by the court a day later. In this situation, the customers are in uncertainty. Therefore, they want their deposit money back immediately.
