Special Correspondent: DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat ​​Ali, NDC said, there is no security threat surrounding Pahela Baishakh. In order to celebrate Pahela Baishakh joyfully, festively and safely, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has divided the metropolis into 21 sectors and taken extensive security measures.
He said these things while briefing journalists after inspecting the security measures on the occasion of the New Year’s Eve and Pahela Baishakh celebrations at Batamul in the capital, Ramna, today, Monday (April 13, 2025 AD) at 11:00 am.
Regarding the security measures taken by the DMP, the DMP Commissioner said, various events of other organizations including the New Year’s Eve ceremony of Chhayanaut and the Ananda Shobhajatra organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts will be held at Batamul in Ramna. A sufficient number of uniformed and plainclothes police personnel will be deployed by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for these events. Important venues will be swept by dog ​​squads. Archways and hand metal detectors will be arranged at the entrance gates of each venue. The venue and procession routes will be monitored round the clock by CCTV cameras, still cameras, video cameras and drone cameras.
He further said that there will be adequate pickets, foot patrols and lining arrangements around the venue and on the procession route. Adequate number of observation towers will be set up to monitor from important places of the venue and forces will be deployed on the rooftops. A special team will work to prevent hawkers from entering the venue and creating any unwanted situation. A police team in white will be deployed to prevent eve-teasing, robbery and pickpocketing. A ‘Lost and Found Center’ has been set up inside Ramna Park and Suhrawardy Udyan. There will be a miking system there. Any malicious activity will be monitored through social media to prevent New Year-centered propaganda, including increased intelligence surveillance and cyber patrolling.
Addressing the esteemed city residents, the DMP Commissioner said that for the sake of your safety, members of the law enforcement agencies will be assisted in the search. No masks, bags, sharp objects and flammable materials will be allowed to be brought to the venue. The event must be completed within the stipulated time and the venue must be left. No lanterns or fireworks of any kind will be allowed and no flutes that cause noise pollution will be used. The DMP Commissioner sought everyone’s full cooperation so that everyone, regardless of race, religion or caste, can celebrate Pohela Baishakh without any hindrance.
Earlier, the DMP’s CTTC’s SWAT, Bomb Disposal Team and K-Nine Team demonstrated a drill on how to handle an emergency situation that arises at Ramna Batamul.
