Three units of the fire service brought the fire under control after an hour of effort. However, important documents on the second and third floors of the building were burnt in the fire.
Two government officials on the fourth floor of the building were trapped during the incident. Among them, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Joint Director Rabiul Islam was rescued injured and admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. The other, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Senior Assistant Engineer Munnaf Hossain, was rescued unharmed.
Obaidul Islam, Senior Station Officer of Dinajpur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that it is initially believed that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit.
