This year, the theme of Jatka Conservation Week has been set as ‘If Jatka fishing stops, Hilsa will be caught in nets’.
‘Jatka Conservation Week-2025’ was celebrated in Pirojpur, like the rest of the country, from April 8 to 14.
On Tuesday, April 8 at 10:30 am, the Jatka Conservation Week was inaugurated with a drill in the Kacha River using a trawler from the Parerhat Fisheries Landing Center in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. After the drill, a discussion meeting was held at the Parerhat Fisheries Landing Center.
Pirojpur District Fisheries Officer Sanjeev Sannamat presided over the meeting.
Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan was present as the chief guest.
Senior Assistant Director Pranab Kumar Biswas was present as a special guest.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mosa: Nasrin, Naval Police OC Prabir, Assistant Commissioner (Land) S. M. Al-Amin, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer M. M. Parvez, President of Parerhat Fishermen Cooperative Society Mohiuddin Mallick, Journalist Muniruzzaman Nasim, among others.
In his speech as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner of Pirojpur said, “If Jatka can be preserved, then Hilsa production will increase many times. If production increases, it will have an impact on the market, supply will increase, and prices will also be under control.”
The interim government has taken an effective action plan to make Hilsa affordable for the common people. In line with this, Jatka Conservation Week will be observed from April 8 to 14.
Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer MM Parvez said, “Jatka is a small 10-inch or 25-centimeter sized hilsa. The main goal of Jatka Conservation Week is to protect Jatka hilsa. This will increase hilsa production and enrich the country’s economy.”
Also present were government officials, fishermen, shopkeepers, wholesalers, fishing trawler owners, and locals.
