College student dies, 5 injured in three-way collision on Comilla-Chandpur road

A college student named Afsana Akhter Ripa (19) was killed in a three-way collision involving a microbus, CNG and auto-rickshaw on the Comilla-Chandpur road. Five others were injured in the incident.

The accident occurred at around 2 pm on Monday (March 17) in the Bangladesh Betar Comilla Kendra area of ​​Barpara Union in Comilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila.

Eyewitnesses said that a Chandpur-bound microbus was involved in a three-way collision with a Comilla-bound CNG and auto-rickshaw. As a result, the CNG and auto-rickshaw twisted and twisted, and the microbus lost control and fell into a ditch on the side of the road and hit the boundary wall of the Bangladesh Betar Comilla Kendra.

Locals quickly rescued the injured and sent them to the Comilla Medical College Hospital. Later in the evening, the doctor declared Ripa, the college student, dead while undergoing treatment. The deceased Ripa Lalmai was a student of Government College and the daughter of Farid Mia of Shibpur village in Sadar Dakshin Upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Laksam Crossing Highway Police Station Md. Mobarak Hossain said, “We quickly reached the spot after receiving the news of the accident. We received information that six people were injured in the accident and later Afsana Akhter Ripa died. The microbus has been seized, but the identity of the driver has not been found yet. Necessary legal action will be taken after an investigation.”

The incident has cast a shadow of grief among the family of the deceased and the locals.
