Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has taken responsibility for Roja, the daughter of Selim Talukder Ramzan, who was killed in police firing during the anti-discrimination movement.
On Monday (March 17) afternoon, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made this announcement after visiting Roja at Selim Talukder’s in-laws’ house in Krishnakathi Muslimpara area of ​​Jhalokati city.
The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami said, this child was named Roja by the family. We are naming her Saima Selim. We will stay with this child until she grows up. She is a member of our family, a trust to all of us. Jamaat-e-Islami is responsible for this child’s education, treatment and marriage.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We will all build a humane Bangladesh together. In this Bangladesh, every person will respond to the sorrow of the people. In this Bangladesh, the government will form a state with the people. I dream of such a state based on the Quran.”
He also said, “Let the murderers be tried quickly, let there be fair trial. Only when justice is done will the families of the martyrs and the countrymen find peace. The government has announced to give 3 million taka to each martyr’s family, if it is given, it will be beneficial for the families. In addition, the treatment of those who are injured must be ensured. According to Taufiq from our organization, we have tried to be by their side and will continue to be in the future.”
Selim was the middle of three sisters and one brother. He was the only earning person in the family. On July 18, he was shot in front of BRAC University during an anti-discrimination movement while going out to work. After being treated in the hospital for 15 days, he died on the night of July 31.
The deceased Selim’s house is in the T&T area of ​​​​Nalchiti Upazila town of Jhalakathi. He worked as an assistant merchandiser at Metro Knitting and Dyeing Mills Limited in Narayanganj.
A year before his death, Selim married Sumi, daughter of Matiur Rahman Chunnu of Krishnakathi Muslimpara area of ​​Jhalakathi city. When Sumi fell ill 4 days after his death, the family members got tested and found out that she was pregnant. Before his death, Selim Talukder did not know that he would be the father of a child.
Last Saturday (March 8) at around 7 pm, his wife gave birth to a baby girl at a private clinic in Jhalakathi.
