A human chain was formed at Pirojpur Science and Technology University to protest against the nationwide oppression and rape of women and demand justice. The human chain was formed in front of the university’s administrative building at 11 am on Thursday (March 13).
The human chain was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, teachers, officials, employees and students of various faculties. The participants of the human chain held various placards and protested against the violence against women and rape. The placards read – “We want law, we want justice, we want the execution of the rapist”, “Raise Your Voice, Break the Silence”, “The spirit of mass uprising, not the Bengali of the rapist”, “I am a woman, I am a human being – women are not a commodity, learn to respect them” etc.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam said in his speech, “According to the data of the Police Headquarters, the number of violence against women in the country has increased by 19.5% from last December to January, which is very worrying. Our mothers and sisters are not safe today. Women are suffering from insecurity in schools, colleges, universities or on the streets. If this continues, our future will become dark.”
At this time, the students demanded exemplary punishment and public execution of the rapists as soon as possible, so that no one dares to commit such crimes in the future.
Speakers at the human chain emphasized the importance of raising social awareness against violence against women and rape and called for strict enforcement of laws to curb such crimes.
