A 9-year-old third-grade madrasa student was strangled to death in Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila after being kidnapped and not receiving ransom money.
On Tuesday (March 11) afternoon, police recovered the body of the child named Shakil from inside a septic tank in Fakirtari village of Ward No. 4 of Gokunda Union of Sadar Upazila.
The deceased Shakil lived with his grandmother in Lalmonirhat and was studying in third grade in a nearby madrasa. Shakil’s father, Shafiqul Islam, lives in Chittagong with another child. His mother is visually impaired.
According to police sources, Shakil had been missing since Monday (March 10) morning. A ransom of three lakh taka was demanded by a call from a number at night. Later, when Shakil’s family gave the number to Sadar Police Station, the police, with the help of information technology, arrested Sohan (18), the user of that number, Sohan’s father and mother. During interrogation overnight, they confessed to killing Shakil. According to the information provided by them, the body was recovered from the septic tank behind Sohan’s house on Tuesday afternoon with the help of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, DB and the army. Later, the body was taken to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In this regard, Lalmonirhat Sadar A Circle SP Fazlul Haque said that after arresting three people with the help of information technology, they were interrogated overnight. According to the information provided by them after interrogation, Shakil’s body was recovered from Fakirtari in Sadar Upazila.
