Police have arrested two members of an inter-district gang of robbers in Daudkandi, Cumilla. During the operation, two foreign pistols, six rounds of bullets, a domestic pipe gun and two cartridges were recovered from them.
They were arrested in a robbery prevention operation by the District Detective Branch of the Police in the Bishwa Road area of ​​Daudkandi on Monday evening (March 10).
The arrested accused are Md. Mamun (37), son of Yunus Mia of Daudkandi Uttar Charcharua village in Daudkandi upazila, and Md. Arif (31), son of the late Ali Akbar of Doublemooring police station in Chittagong.
District Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan gave this information at a press conference held at the district police superintendent’s office on Tuesday (March 11).
The Superintendent of Police said that based on secret information, it was reported that Mamun was staying in the Mohan Pump area of ​​Daudkandi. Later, DB police arrested him. During interrogation, Mamun said that there was a foreign pistol with three rounds of bullets, a domestic pipe gun and two cartridges on the balcony of his house. DB police immediately conducted a raid there and recovered the weapons. According to Mamun’s confession, his nephew Md. Arif (31) was later arrested from Gouripur Bazar. Another foreign pistol with three rounds of bullets was recovered from Arif’s rented house.
Among those arrested, Mamun has four cases against him at Daudkandi Police Station, including robbery and torture of women and children. He was an active member of the road robbery gang, while Arif was involved in the boat robbery.
Comilla District Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan said, “This group was involved in multiple robberies and violent crimes using the recovered weapons. We are coordinating 10 teams in the district ahead of Eid. We are trying to do our best to curb crime.”
