Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has commented that the Election Commission wants to hold elections like 91, 96, and 2001 with everyone in the future. He told reporters after a meeting held in Cox’s Bazar district on Sunday afternoon to update the voter list with photos and on the occasion of the 13th National Parliament election.
The Chief Election Commissioner said, we want to give the gift of a beautiful election. In this regard, everyone’s involvement and cooperation are needed. Commenting that those in the current administration held the elections of 91, 96, and 2001, the Chief Election Commissioner said, the Election Commission will not put any undue pressure on anyone, will not make any unjust decisions. In the meeting, he instructed those assigned to election duties to work according to the law and promised to be with them. National Parliament elections or local parliament elections first – which way is the Election Commission moving in the midst of such debates among political parties? In response to a question from journalists, he said, we do not want to get into this debate between political parties. For now, the Election Commission’s first goal is to update an accurate voter list. There are 1.6 million dead voters. They need to be excluded. He said, the interim government has given two deadlines, by December or by June, which is the big reform. This will increase the number of dead voters and new voters. The final voter list for the next election will be available by June.
The meeting began at 10:30 am in the conference room of the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin presided over it. The meeting ended at 1:30 pm. Later, he spoke to journalists.
Acting Superintendent of Police Shakil Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nizam Uddin Ahmed, along with District Election Officers, Upazila Nirbahi Officers and Upazila Election Officers were present in the meeting.
