While serving as a diplomat, Advisor on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Supradeep Chakma protested when a foreign diplomat tried to describe him as a citizen of another country rather than a citizen of Bangladesh based on his physical build and appearance. “I am proud to identify myself as a Bangladeshi,” he said.
Advisor Ambassador (Retd.) Supradeep Chakma made this statement while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Mother Language Film Festival 2025 on the occasion of the Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day at Vintage Convention Hall No. 27, Dhanmondi, in the capital on Sunday afternoon, February 23.
Advisor Supradeep Chakma said, in light of the diplomat’s question, I further said, if 1952 and 1971 had not come in our lives, I would have been your clerk now. It is because of the war of independence that I have been able to become a diplomat like you today. So I am blessed that I am Bangladeshi. Advisor Supradeep Chakma further said, we have a responsibility to build a beautiful Bangladesh. He said, along with our responsibility, we must have a beautiful mind. Everyone must have affection for their own region. Everyone must remember the moments of regional love. Only then will our homeland be filled with love. Advisor Supradeep Chakma expressed the opinion that we must remember our own language and regionalism with respect.
Advisor Supradeep Chakma also said, “Our chief advisor often says that we should not do anything to show off, but rather build Bangladesh with love, beauty, harmony and brotherhood from the heart.” The advisor said, “We are working towards that goal.”
The advisor thanked the organizers for organizing such a beautiful festival of mother tongue films. Later, he inaugurated the two-day film festival.
A total of 15 films will be screened in this festival. Among them are films made in Chakma, Marma, Mro Bam, and Garo languages. Among these films, the first Mro language film ‘Klobong Mla’ has been made in the country, which has been named Girikusum in Bengali. The first Kheyang language film ‘Khetsu’ or Preyosi’ has been made in the country. The first Bam language film in the country is Munkhat Dut Hen, whose Bengali name is Bandhan. These three new films in indigenous languages ​​have been produced by Dr. Mong Usha Thoai and directed by Pradeep Ghosh.
Among the films made in Bengali, ‘Raktakaribir Khoje Nandini’, made by students of Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute, has been included. In this film, Avni Mithu has played the role of Nandini. ‘Ghore Fera’, produced by Nur Absa and directed by Shaoli Majumdar, based on the story of Rabindranath Tagore’s Post Master, is the film. Colors of Hope, directed by Mrittika Rashed. The festival will feature Necklace, directed by Nazmul Muhammad, Achik Oikya, directed by S. M. Shafinur Alam, No Land’s Talk, directed by Rashedul Islam Rony, Paitrik Vita, directed by Mobarak Hossain, Chhata, directed by Fidel Drong, and Ro Kish Din, directed by Partha Folia.
Professor Dr. MM Akash, ABM Shamsul Huda, Dr. Dibalok Singha, Dr. Mushtaq Hossain were present as speakers at the inaugural ceremony.
The program was presided over by Bandarban district physician and film producer Dr. Mong Usha Thoai.
