A victim’s family held a press conference at Moulvibazar Online Press Club to protect themselves from the clutches of the accused and his associates in multiple cases including extortion in Srigaon village of Sindurkhan Union No. 4 of Srimangal Upazila.
On the afternoon of February 17 (Monday), victim Md. Zafar Ali gave a written statement – Young industrial entrepreneur Md. Hafizur Rahman, a French expatriate, started working on a farm with a boundary wall in Sharergaj Mouza of the upazila. The responsibility of the farm was given to his elder brother Muhibur Rahman and cousin Zafar. When the workers went to work at the said farm, Sheikh Jasim Uddin created a barrier and demanded a ransom of 2 lakh taka. And threatened to demolish the said farm if the demanded money was not paid.
Although the matter was informed to local dignitaries, since it could not be resolved, Md. Hafizur Rahman, a resident of France, filed a case against Sheikh Jasim Uddin (35), Sheikh Wasim Uddin (30), Sheikh Kabir Uddin (40) and 4/5 unknown persons in the learned Senior Judicial Magistrate Court, Moulvibazar (CR- Case No. 373/2024 (Sri.). The learned court directed the PBI, Moulvibazar to investigate the case. After receiving the truth of the extortion demand and intimidation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigating officer of the case, recently after a long investigation and finding the truth of the allegations, submitted an investigation report against Sheikh Jasim Uddin to the learned Senior Judicial Magistrate, No. 2, Moulvibazar, court. Currently, the case is pending in the learned court. CR case against Sheikh Jasim Uddin No. 369/24 (Sri), Executive Magistrate Court Case No. 320/24 (Sri), Cyber Case No. 242/24 (plaintiff of the case – Md. Parvez Mia) and several other cases are pending and under investigation in the learned court. Sheikh Jasim Uddin, out of revenge and vile conspiracy and to get rid of the case filed against him, filed a political case in the Moulvibazar Senior Judicial Magistrate No. 2 Administrative Court, mentioning the date and time of the incident as 05/02/2018, time: 5 pm, place: Srimangal Chaumuhana (Mong- No. CR- 55/2025, (Sri). Former Agriculture Minister of the dictatorial government, Md. Abdus Shahid (70), was named as the first accused, along with a total of 37 names and 50/60 other unknown names. Jafar was recorded as the 10th accused as a ward member of the Awami League, (plaintiff in cyber case no. 242/24) Md. Parvez Mia as the 12th accused, Md. Nurul Islam (40), sister-in-law of Md. Hafizur Rahman, a French expatriate, was recorded as the 13th accused, Md. Hafizur Rahman, a young industrialist, was recorded as the 16th accused, his elder brother Mohibur Rahman (witness in the case filed against Jasim) was recorded as the 17th accused, his cousin (witness) Md. Dulal Mia as the 23rd accused, his sister-in-law (witness in the case filed against Jasim) was recorded as the 24th accused, and Md. Rajan Mia, the plaintiff in the case filed against him for blindfolding and torturing Ganche and recording the video. The case was filed by mentioning accused number 25. The learned court has directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Moulvibazar to investigate the said political case and submit a report.
The written statement further stated that Sheikh Jasim mentioned the date and time of filing the case in the learned court as 05/02/2018. However, at that time, accused number 16, a young industrial entrepreneur from France, Md. Hafizur Rahman, was staying in France. Accused number 2, Md. Sanur Mia, was staying in Saudi Arabia. Jafar was recorded as a ward member of the Awami League and mentioned as accused number 10. However, he is not a member of the said party. Jafar and his family have been subjected to multiple tortures and injustices at the hands of the autocratic Awami League government. Accused No. 12 Md. Parvez Mia (plaintiff in the case filed against Jasim in the cyber court), Accused No. 13 Md. Nurul Islam, sister-in-law of France expatriate Md. Hafizur Rahman (witness in the case filed against Jasim in the court), Accused No. 17 Md. Hafizur Rahman’s elder brother Mohibur Rahman (witness in the case filed against Jasim in the court), Accused No. 23 Dulal Mia is his cousin, Accused No. 24 Md. Shipon Mia (witness in the case filed against Jasim in the court) and Accused No. 25 Md. Rajan Mia, the plaintiff in the case filed against him for the incident of torture and video recording by blindfolding him to a tree. The case was filed by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigating officer of the case recently, after a long investigation, after finding the truth of the allegations, the learned Senior Judicial Magistrate, No. 2, Moulvibazar, filed an investigation report against Sheikh Jasim Uddin in the court. The case is currently pending in the learned court. The victim Md. Zafar Ali and other victims alleged that Sheikh Jasim Uddin, the former joint secretary of Moulvibazar district of JASAS, an affiliate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and currently a member of the Srimangal Police Station Convening Committee, is harassing and intimidating them. The victims sought moral support, state protection, public administration, police administration and everyone’s cooperation to save themselves from Sheikh Jasim Uddin’s clutches. Among others present at the press conference were – Md. Mohibur Rahman, Md. Zafar Mia, Md. Dulal Mia, Md. Sajid Mia, Md. Sahanur Mia, etc.
