Md. Haider Ali Morol, Chairman of Sadar Union of Dighlia Upazila of Khulna and Awami League leader, has been accused of collecting a large sum of money by selling government Khas Khatian land positions through stamp contracts, embezzling money for land acquisition for the Ashrayan project, embezzling money for the TR-Kabita project, collecting additional money from customers in exchange for deep tube wells, and embezzling crores of taka through corruption in various government development projects including LG SP project, hat bazaar, development fund, upazila parishad allocation, and job creation projects. He is even accused of using old bricks in the TR-Kabita project and using workers from the 40-day program to complete the work. He has taken many contracting jobs from the Sheikh family with a 10% commission. Even though fascist Hasina and her friends fled the country, this UP Chairman, who is a friend of the Awami League, is still alive.
UP Chairman Haider Ali Morol was a member of the Khulna District Awami League and was known as a confidant of the Sheikh family and former MP Salam Murshedi. Due to this, he got involved in various irregularities and corruption after being elected chairman several times. There are also allegations that he became the owner of crores of taka in a short time.
Sources say that after the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 in the face of the student-public movement against discrimination, UP Chairman Haider Ali Morol was in hiding for several days. However, later he returned to his post after ‘managing’ all the parties. Thus, this friend of fascism is still alive. Besides, he used to be a member of the Jatiya Party before. From there, he joined the BNP. Later, to get benefits, he became the Awami League leader. In this way, whenever the party came to power, he joined that party with poultice. Although there is extreme anger among the locals about his irregularities and corruption, no one dares to speak out for fear of him, as he is an influential chairman.
Investigation and Khulna Deputy Commissioner. According to the complaint of Army member Md. Khasrul Islam, it has been learned that Md. Khasrul Islam, son of the deceased Fazlul Haque of Dighalia village, entered into an agreement with the Deputy Commissioner of Khulna to sell a total of 0.7871 acres of land in his name in Bamragati Mouza (RS 1209, 957 Khatian 917,919, 920 and 460 No. Dag) for the shelter project at a price of 75 thousand taka per percent. Accordingly, on March 29, 2022, when all the work of registering the land was completed, at that moment Chairman Haider Ali Morol said, ‘Khasrul’s land will not be registered until a blank check is given from his bank.’ Immediately, after Khasrul was given 2 checks from his name Sonali Bank Dighalia branch from his house, the land was registered at the Dighalia Sub-Registry Office. The document numbers are 489/22, 490/22, 492/22. After the land was registered, the then Dighlia Upazila Executive Officer Md. Mahabubul Alam gave him (Khasrul) a check of 50 lakh taka. He immediately deposited the check in his account at the Dighlia Sonali Bank branch.
Retired army member Md. Khasrul Islam alleged that as soon as he deposited the check, Haider Ali Morol withdrew 10 lakh 56 thousand 750 taka in one check and 5 lakh 25 thousand taka in another check through an employee of his union parishad named Shilpi. Later, when Haider Ali Morol asked for the return of the two checks he had given, he started making various excuses. At one point, he said, ‘The money has been taken as security, the money will be returned after the land mutation.’
When the matter was informed to the former Dighlia Upazila Chairman Sheikh Marful Islam and the then Executive Officer Mahbub Alam, they promised to return the money after a month. After a month, Haider Ali Morol returned 4 lakh 20 thousand taka to me. The remaining 11 lakh 61 thousand 750 taka is being shown various forms of intimidation, including abusive language, saying that the money will not be returned even after two years.
Investigation into another complaint revealed that the 50-60 year old fish market was located on 17 acres of land under Khas Government No. 1 Khatianbhu (RS 4846 No. Dag) of Panigati Mouza No. 36 of Dighlia Upazila. Chairman Haider Ali Morol sold the positions of 8 shops on the land of that fish market for a stamp of three hundred taka. Besides, in the name of Khulna Deputy Commissioner, in the name of Khulna Deputy Commissioner, 7 recipients donated .21 acres of land between 4162 and 4862 dagas of RS 785 Khatian and .06 acres between 4159 and 4845 dagas of RS 1290 Khatian, a total of .27 acres of land for the Road Market Development Project. These 7 people are – SM Golam Rahman, Moss. Aleya Begum, Moss. Saleha Begum, Md. Charowar Hossain Band, Md. Oliar Rahman Band, Md. Delwar Band and Md. Joynal Band. But Haider Ali Morol has sold the positions of 16 meat shops located in the government market for a stamp of 50 taka each. In this way, UP Chairman Md. Haider Ali Morol has embezzled crores of taka by selling government land. There are huge properties in his name and anonymity. Locals said that if investigated, it will come out. Although the UP Chairman has embezzled government property in this way, there is no visible progress in recovering it from the Upazila Land Office or the administration.
Meat traders Abdur Rahim Sheikh and Md. Anwar Hossain of the roadside market said that the new meat market was opened in 2012-13. There are 16 meat shops here. Haider Ali Morol took 50 thousand taka from each meat shop. He also sold the position of the cow slaughtering place (slaughterhouse) here. Cows are slaughtered from outside and sold in the market.
We are starting business after paying the money.
Admitting the truth of the complaint, UP Chairman Md. Haider Ali Morol said that money was taken by giving the positions of meat traders in the new market. And the positions were sold in the old fish market. Because the fish traders gave positions in the new market, the old fish market was exchanged with me. And that is why I sold the positions in the old market. Manju, Maruf and Anis Kha from the new fish market have sold some positions from me. However, he denied embezzling the land acquisition money for the shelter project and taking bank checks in the name of Khasru Morol.
Haider Ali Morol, defending himself, claimed that thousands of crores of taka were looted during the Awami League era. When we took a job, we gave 10% commission to the Sheikh family. And former MP Salam Murshedi’s PS Akhtar also took 10% commission for the deep tube well and TR-Kabikha work.
In this regard, Dighlia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ariful Islam said, there is no opportunity to sell and transfer the positions of government khas land. However, action will be taken if the truth is found.
