Government considering retirement allowance for senior and talented journalists

PID Chittagong Regional Office Deputy Chief Information Officer Md. Saeed Hasan said that the current government is implementing a scholarship program for talented children of journalists. The government has also taken into consideration the issue of providing monthly retirement allowance to senior and talented journalists. In addition, various steps have been taken to enhance the professional skills of journalists. On February 4, at 11 am, at the initiative of the Regional Information Office, PID Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Shahid ATM Zafar Alam, in collaboration with the District Administration and District Information Office, held a meeting titled “The Importance of Media in Building a New Bangladesh Without Discrimination in the Thoughts of Youth” at the CSP Conference Room. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin was present at the meeting as the chief guest. In his speech as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner said that words and sentences have a profound impact on people’s lives. Words can strengthen people’s minds. The power of words is the greatest power in the world. Therefore, journalists should be careful in choosing words. Remember – 180 million people in the country are judging the writings of one of you. For this, the practice of true and objective journalism must be strengthened with due importance. He said that currently a digital divide is being created in society. Many are able to use digital technology to the maximum, while many are not. Therefore, everyone involved in the media must acquire skills in using this technology. Additional Superintendent of Police Nazmus Shakib Khan, Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Titu Chandra Shil, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nizam Uddin Ahmed spoke as special guests at the meeting. Under the leadership of Information Officer of Chittagong PID G. M Saiful Islam, Senior Information Officer Bappi Chakraborty delivered a welcome speech and presented the main article. Daily Saikat Editor Mahbubur Rahman, Shamsul Haque Sharek of Inquilab, Kalbela Correspondent MR Mahbubur, R TV’s Saifur Rahim Shahin, Daily Cox’s Bazar’s M. Bedarul Alam, Jasim Uddin Siddiqui of Cox’s Bazar Voice, Shahed Mizan of Daily Azadi, Mahmudur Rahman Masud, Shahin and other Cox’s Bazar representatives of local and national newspapers. The journalists said that arrangements should be made to stop the false news published on online portals by fact-checking them. An environment should be created for journalists to work independently. The approval process for approving online news portals should be simplified. Field-level news using IP TV and Facebook should be brought under accountability. They made various recommendations, including the proper implementation of journalism policies and obtaining certificates from recognized institutions to become journalists. The journalists made recommendations to the relevant government institutions to become more media-friendly, including journalist training at the district level through PID. At the meeting, two representatives of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement highlighted the role of the media in the July movement and emphasized the importance of rising above personal ideals in journalism and adhering to the ideology of public-friendly and impartial journalism. At the beginning of the meeting, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the July-August martyrs.
