Locals are fearing violence over the Urs festival at Chandpuri Darbar Sharif in Laksam, Comilla.
Meanwhile, on the morning of February 4 (Tuesday), the conscious citizen society held a protest march and rally in front of the Upazila Executive Officer’s office and in front of Laksam Police Station, demanding the closure of Orsh.
Sounding a warning from the rally, conscious civil society leaders said that if the administration fails to stop the Urs, a hartal program will be observed in Laksam, including blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong railway line and the Dhaka-Noakhali road.
It is learned that Urs is scheduled to be held at the Durbar Sharif on Wednesday (February 5).
Every year on 22 Magh, a huge Ursh is held here with thousands of devotees and followers according to the tradition of Maizbhandar Sharif. However, the conscious civil society and the locals have declared the two Pirs of that Darbar Sharif as unwanted for this year’s Ursh program. In this regard, human chains, protests and posters were organized against the Bhand Pir under the banner of the Towhidi Janata. However, since another Pir of that Darbar Sharif, Manjur Alam Parvez, announced the Ursh, there is tension among the general Muslims and the followers of the Pir in the area.
Locals said that the plaintiffs in the case filed against the country’s renowned mufassir Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee on false charges are Tariqat Federation President Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari and Secretary General Syed Rezaul Haque Chandpuri. A human chain and a protest rally were held at the Laksam bypass of the Comilla-Noakhali regional highway and Daulatganj Bazar under the banner of the Towhidi Janata, demanding exemplary punishment for the arrest of the two pirs, along with the other pir of Chandpuri Darbar Sharif, Syed Manjur Alam Parvez and their associates.
In addition, posters were also put up in Laksam and Manoharganj declaring the three Pirs as unwanted in Laksam. In the meantime, tension spread in the area after Manjur Alam Parvez announced the organization of Orsh. In addition, on February 3 (Monday) and February 4 (Tuesday), the conscious civic society held a rally by forming a human chain on the road and holding a protest march in front of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office, giving a 24-hour ultimatum to stop Orsh. The speakers were – civic society convener Muhammad Mohiuddin, joint convener Mohammad Abubakar Zahid, member secretary Fakhrul Islam Masum, and prominent businessman of Ashirpar Bazar, Maulana Nazrul Islam.
Among others, Mohammad Farid Uddin, Maulana Mohiuddin, Maulana Khalilur Rahman, Hafez Shah Alam Majumder, ATM Shawkat Hossain Biplob, student representative Arafat Sunny Yusuf spoke. The speakers at the human chain and protest rally said that the religious businessman, enemy of the nation, humanity and Islam, hypocrite Rezaul Haque Chandpuri, who filed a false and fabricated case against the world-renowned Mufassir of the Quran Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee, must be arrested immediately. This Orsah must be stopped to stop hypocrisy in the name of Orsah. Otherwise, the public in the area, including the conscious civil society, will observe a strike program in Laksam along with blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong railway line.
Meanwhile, to avoid any untoward incident, Laksham Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazneen Sultana summoned the festival organizer Syed Manjur Alam Parvez to the police station and requested him not to organize the festival. But he remained adamant about organizing the festival.
Laksam Police Station OC Nazneen Sultana said that when the tension between the two sides came to light, Manjur Alam Parvez Pir Saheb was requested not to organize the Ursh. But he was adamant about organizing the Ursh. So I asked him to get permission from the Comilla Police Superintendent. He did not get permission from the District Police Superintendent either. However, they said that they will perform circumcision and give Tabarak to a few others. The army is stationed there to avoid any untoward incident and our police officers are also there. No permission has been given by the police to organize all their activities surrounding the Ursh.
In this regard, the accused Pir Syed Manjur Alam Parvez said, “I am not a Pir. I am doing some service to the court as a minor caretaker of the Darbar Sharif.”
Upazila Executive Officer Kausar Hamid said – No administrative permission has been given for the Urs ceremony at the Darbar Sharif of Syed Rezaul Haque Chandpuri in Dakshin (Dokhaiya) of Gobindapur Union of Laksam Upazila.
