Uzzal Hossain, Pangsha: Upazila Engineer’s (LGED) office on three floors. Low-quality moss-covered bricks are being used in the construction of the five-story building. The engineer stopped work after receiving a call from a journalist. Locals say that it is not possible to use low-quality bricks in this building if no one from the engineer’s office is involved. Such an incident occurred in the construction of the Pangsha Upazila Parishad building in Rajbari district.
It is learned that the construction of another tower under the EDP project is underway after the demolition of the four-tower building of the Upazila Parishad. The construction cost has been estimated at more than 1.5 crore taka. The work is being done by the former chairman of the Upazila Parishad, Md. Farid Hasan Odud.
On Monday (February 3), workers were seen working with moss-covered bricks. At that time, the Upazila Engineer was informed about the matter on his mobile phone, and the work was stopped. At that time, the manager of the contracting company, Md. Rajib Hossain, said, the bricks were brought 15 days ago. About 1500-2000 bricks have been worked on. The truck driver is bringing this number two brick by mistake. Now he has asked to stop the work. We have stopped the work. The locals say, the bricks are old and moss-covered, it can be understood by looking at it that it is number two. The engineer’s office is on the third floor, and low-quality bricks are being used in the fifth floor. If no one from the engineer’s office is involved, it is not possible to use low-quality bricks in this building in any way. Deputy Assistant Engineer Sohel Rana, who is supervising the construction work, said, we stopped the work at around 11 am today. Work has been going on with low-quality bricks for a few days, in response to the question of why they are stopping today, he said, it has been said before too. They have not listened. Upazila Engineer Khowazur Rahman said, “The office is closed on Fridays and Saturdays. They brought the bricks here. We have stopped work now.”
